Alborz Ski Resorts
In cold seasons, there are five ski resorts in the neighborhood of Tehran. In the north of the city, the most accessible one is Tochal, which is worth to visit even For those who don’t want to ski.
In the way of glorious Mt Damavand, Abali resort located around 50 km from Tehran which is the closest resort to the city after Tochal. Keep going to the north, and around 62 km of Tehran, the next resorts are placed in the villages of Shemshak and Darbansar.
The most ideal option and the largest one is Dizin. But, it is located is in the 125 km of the north via Chalus road.

Dizin is, also, the largest resort in the country, and it is an internationally acceptable resort which has gondolas and many chairs and drag lifts (usually the whole system of lifts is open on the weekends). Even though slopes all together are not much exciting, but with base camp at about 2700m elevation and a vertical distance of the slope about 900m, it will satisfy the need for speed for is recommended to visit between January and March, but its ski season can extend from December to May. After a snowfall you can find a lot of scope in the unprepared ways of the ski, however, Pistes are sometimes prepared for ski. Expending time for the gondolas and ski lifts is not very hard, except in holidays. You can, also, hire Ski instructors by US$100 per a ski hire shops in the resort and the ones at the neighborhood of Velayat Rud, you can rent all equipment that you need for ski. The minimum rate of renting a set of skis, boots, and poles is IR450, 000 for a day.
Four Sleeping and Seven Hostel in Dizin
For those who wanted to enjoy peace of nature at Dizin, there is a comfortable and welcoming hostel that is located in the Velayat Rud, at 5km of the ski resort. A nice couple is in charge of this cozy hostel, and for an extra cost, they can cook your meals. The prices include a breakfast, drinks throughout the day and transfers to Dizin.

Dizin Hotel
The convenient Dizin Hotel is located at the lowest part of the ski zone that is divided into two parts. Dizin1 which is the main building have normal rooms. There are also Four- and five-bed cabins and chalets. In the period of the year that fewest people visit, Prices are discussable.
Getting There & Away
The whole way from Tehran to Dizin is about 125km (note that in the snowy weather the cars must be equipped with the chains or you will need a 4 wheel drive car for the last 10 km). Renting a one-way taxi to/from Tehran cost you around IR1.5 million. Another option is that you can take a bus from Tehran’s Western Terminal heading toward Chalus and get off from the bus at the ‘Dizin slop’, and get another ride toward Dizin for the remaining 15km. There is another way to Dizin via Shemshak which is 52km to Tehran, but it is necessary to check weather situation on this road because you might get caught in the snow. This deceptive twisty road which is connecting upper parking lot with the lower lot in the neighborhood of the Dizin Hotel is only usable From June to October. You can also buy some packages including transport, accommodation and lift pass from Tehran travel agencies.

Shemshak & Darbansar
The ski resorts of Shemshak and Darbansar are located in the 50 km of Tehran, and both have some slopes that are very exciting and breathtaking for expert skiers and snowboarders.
In addition to the ski, these villages are the magnificent tourist attraction for people who want to enjoy the perspective of nature and run away from the dangerous pollution of Tehran. For those who wanted to go Ice-climbing, it is recommended to visit the frozen waterfall at Meygoon which is located on the way of Shemshak.

Darbansar Ski Resort
Darbansar ski resort is a modern ski resort and located at an elevation of 2650m to 3150m. It has a ski school and you can ski there at night. The runs are relatively difficult and there’s the possibility of ski away from prepared ski runs, including across to Dizin on the other side of Mt Kashoolak.
400m toward the bottom of slope from Shemshak’s ski lift, The Shemshak Tourist Inn (Hotel Jahangardi) is placed. Though it is a convenient hotel, for accessing the hotel climbing is needed. Actually, you should climb up 300 steps from the main road and there is no car access. If you want to have fewer expenses in these resorts, then don’t go there in the weekend. In these villages, you can also find some apartments for rent(summer/winter from US$50/70).
Eating & Drinking
One of the most stylish places in Shemshak and Darbansar is Chillax Cafe & White Lounge Restaurant. All of the staffs are very kind and charming, and you can enjoy the taste of both international and local dishes there.

Shemshak Ski Resort
Shemshak ski resort is the largest ski resort in Iran after Dizin which is operated by the government. For going to the top you should use only two chairlifts or four drag lifts. The area of ski in Shemshak is challenging, and runs are mostly very difficult. Some of the vertical descents are about 500m which is very thrilling. There is also the possibility of mogul skiing.
