This is a list of attractive activities in Tehran:

Tochal Telecabin

Hiking to the top of Mt Tochal (3933) takes 45 minutes, So you can enjoy an unforgettable ride on Tochal Telecabin in any time of the year. You don’t have to go all the way (and you’ll need to change gondolas at Station 5 anyway), but there’s a ski resort up top where you’ll find snow between six and eight months of the year. Many people choose Tochal Mt as a hiking destination in warmer seasons. The telecabin is super busy on Thursday, Friday and public holidays when Tehrani’s flock here as much for the socializing as the skiing or hiking; on such days waits of an hour or more in line are not uncommon. On other days, however, it’s virtually empty. Note the telecabin doesn’t run in windy weather; it’s worth calling ahead to check. To get here, ask for a shuttle taxi to Tochal Telecabin from the north side of Tajrish Sq. At the beginning of the way, you can find the public transportation for the telecabin or you can walk for 10 minutes to reach to the telecabin. On the way, you’ll pass several cafes, a single zip line operation and the Alpine Coaster, a bob-sleigh-style ride on metal tracks. There is, also, a chairlift that goes to one of the most favorite places for hiking, Cheshmeh, which is not far from the top of the mountain. The telecabin stops twice in route to the top Station 7 at 3740m – first at Station 2 (2400m), then Station 5 (2935m), where there’s a cafe.

Three kilometers uphill from Tajrish Sq, the road ends, becoming a path winding up a narrow rocky valley, with water cascading down the slope.
In the way of hills, there is a sequence of teahouses and fruit-conserve stalls and restaurants which is one of the peaceful places in Tehran and can provide a very unique feeling of joy for every passenger. Near the entrance to Darband village is a chairlift, which will cut out some of the slogs uphill (although it was closed for renovation at the time of writing).

One of the famous and spectacular places of Tehran is Darakeh which is located at the elevation of 1700 m in the neighborhood of Evin prison.
From the cluster of riverside restaurants near the central car park, paths head up through the village and connect with hiking trails across and up the mountainside. From Darakeh you could, also, walk to station 1 of Tochal Telecabin.

Serious hikers can continue east across the mountain for around 5km to Jamshidiyeh Park. A visiting Darband can easily be combined with “Sa’d Abad”. exit the palace complex via the top entrance and keep going up the hill.

Tochal Ski Resort

Hugging the peak of Mt Tochal, and reached via the Tochal Telecabin, this is the easiest ski resort to access from Tehran. The location at 3500m is spectacular, but the gentle slopes, accessed via a couple of chair and drag lifts, are not so long and mostly for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. If there’s sufficient snow it’s possible to ski down from the top Station 7 of the telecabin to Station 5.
Ski passes are sold at Station 1, where it’s best to rent any equipment you need, too (there is very limited equipment available at the resort). If you book to stay at the comfortable Tochal Hotel, your return telecabin journey and two days of skiing at the summit are covered. There’s also a self-serve cafe at the hotel as well as another cafe at Station 5.

Tochal Ski Club

The club runs a busy equipment rental station at the base of Station 1 of the Tochal Telecabin; on Thursday, Friday and holidays make sure you get here as soon as it opens or you’ll be in a long line for service. It can also arrange lessons at Tochal ski resort from IR350,000 per hour.

Tehran is constantly throwing up pleasant surprises and this Japanese-themed spa is one of them. Styled after an onsen (natural hot-spring) resort, Hana has four soaking pools into which the salts and minerals have been added. There’s also a salt sauna room, various massage therapies, a cafe and a Japanese restaurant on the well-designed premises.

The working time of telecabin is limited, another choice is climbing 3933m of Mt Tochal.
From Station 1 to Station 5 of the telecabin will take around six hours and is an easy route to follow. From Station 5 to the summit is more tricky and is best done in the company of experienced mountaineers – contact Varzesh Kooh for details of various routes and guides.
